The biggest advantage of penetrant inspection is that it can be applied on both ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials.

Direct and Remote Visual Inspection (VT & RVI)

Despite all the developments in Inspection Technology, visual inspection continues to be the basic non-destructive testing method. There are a variety of situations in which the visual inspection that provides basic data to inform the operation and maintenance process is an option. With Visual Inspection, the material on the surface can show problems such as defects, corrosion or cracks.

INTERCON provides direct visual inspection and visual inspection services with different optical devices (RVI) for manufacturing, maintenance, in-service, condition assessment and damage analysis.

Leakage and Vacuum Box Test (LT & Vacuum Box)

In closed systems, leakage test allows leak detection and the smallest molecule inert gas helium is used. Helium gas probes are placed on other suitable part of system to detect helium gas, which filled in the system. In simpler systems, the hand detector is placed around the gas filled container on the surface.

Vacuum test (vacuum box) is used for welded structures like weld seams in above ground storage tanks, vessel cargo tank. Weld seams which is wetted by the test fluid and vacuumed, the area is inspected for the visible leakage finding (bubble).

Guided Waves (GW)

Guided Wave testing (GWT) is one of latest methods in the field of non-destructive evaluation. The method employs mechanical stress waves that propagate along an elongated structure while guided by its boundaries. This allows the waves to travel a long distance with little loss in energy. Nowadays, GWT is widely used to inspect and screen many engineering structures, particularly for the inspection of metallic pipelines that cannot be partially or fully inaccessible.

Eddy Current Test (ECT)

INTERCON provides eddy current test with special equipment and application-specific certified technicians. INTERCON ECT service provides fast and accurate inspection for heat exchanger pipes and other critical engineering components. The eddy current test is sensitive to minor discontinuities and requires little preparation for cleaning.

Introduction training is provided by INTERCON to groups of up to 12 persons, at least 5 persons on request. The most basic purposes of general knowledge and how to use of standard. In introduction courses, only the standard is used as a training document. Introduction training for each code is organized in 2-3 day programs.

Certification training is an uninterrupted education, including 8.5 day weekends. Standards and special training notes are used as training syllabus in certification trainings. At the end of each course, sample exam questions are solved and trial exams are held. It is an intensive program including homework.

API AUTHORIZED INSPECTION SERVICES

API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection

Covers the in-service inspection, repair, alteration, and rerating activities for pressure vessels and the pressure- relieving devices protecting these vessels. This inspection code applies to most refining and chemical process vessels that have been placed in service. This includes:

  • Vessels constructed in accordance with an applicable construction code
  • Vessels constructed without a construction code (non-code)-A vessel not fabricated to a recognized construction code and meeting no known recognized standard.
  • Vessels constructed and approved as jurisdictional special based upon jurisdiction acceptance of particular design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and installation.
  • Nonstandard vessels-A vessel fabricated to a recognized construction code but has lost its nameplate or stamping qualified to conduct periodic inspections and investigate abnormalities in the operation of covered equipment.

API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspection

Covers the inspection, repair, alteration and reconstruction of steel aboveground storage tanks used in the petroleum and chemical industries.  Provides the minimum requirements for maintaining the integrity of welded or riveted, non-refrigerated, atmospheric pressure, and aboveground storage tanks after they have been placed in service.

API 570 Piping Inspection

Covers the in-service inspection, rating, repair, and alteration procedures for metallic and FRP piping systems and their associated pressure relieving devices that have been in-service.

The intent of API 570 is to specify the in-service inspection and condition-monitoring program that is needed to determine the integrity of piping. That program should provide reasonably accurate and timely assessments to determine if any changes in the condition of piping could possibly compromise continued safe operation. API 570

was developed for the petroleum refining and chemical process industries but may be used, where practical, for any piping system. It is intended for use by organizations that maintain or have access to an authorized inspection agency, a repair organization, and technically qualified piping engineers, inspectors, and examiners. Intended for use by organizations that maintain or have access to an authorized inspection agency, repair organization, and technically qualified personnel.

Material tests are one of the important field services of INTERCON. Field material testing services, chemical, physical, microstructure properties of materials are determined and the results are given to the customer quickly and accurately.

MATERIALS TEST

Positive Material Identification (PMI)

Positive Material Identification is rapidly emerging as an internal part of process safety management and quality control in many industries such as electric power generation, construction, manufacturing, chemical processing, oil refineries and petro chemical plants. INTERCON provides material identification and quantitative elemental determination by using modern hand-held, portable X-Ray analyzers, for a wide range of items.

Measuring Ferrite Content

Austenitic, Duplex, Super Duplex stainless steels require adequate proportion of ferrite in the product to obtain acceptable corrosion resistance and strength and especially resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Ferrite measurement by using ferritscope is a nondestructive test method that assures the quality of the product without the need of expensive laboratory based destructive test method.

Replica Test – Non-Destructive Metallography

Non-destructive metallography is also called a replica test. The replica technique allows the observer to determine the material for the microstructure of the material on the surface of the equipment, which must be inspected without taking any part of the material itself. In this way, the relation between the microstructure and the existing microstructure is revealed.

Underwater Magnetic Particle Testing This inspection system is a magnetic particle test, which the diver can apply in deep water, shallow waters and tidal waters. The 12-volt rechargeable battery operated DC current hand yoke is tested using a high-intensity UV light source. For inspection equipment the diver does not need a hose connection with the surface.

Alternatively, the magnetic particle inspection medium (test liquid) is delivered to the underwater by pressure equipment, which control by diver and magnetic particle inspection equipment via the surface. In this method, the magnetic particle liquid carrier, spray system and ultraviolet light are integrated.

UNDERWATER SERVICES

Underwater Thickness Measurement

In some underwater corrosion inspection applications, the application is in the form of thickness measurement in the underwater support piles and the underwater parts of the above water structures. Some applications require working in a deeper water environment. INTERCON has a very good application and evaluation experience in underwater thickness measurements, and has thickness gauges having a special probe and cable that can be used in both shallow and deep water.

Underwater Visual Inspection

There are three types of underwater visual inspection, general visual inspection, close visual inspection and detailed visual inspection.

General visual inspection does not require cleaning, can be performed with diver or ROV. Close and Detailed Visual Inspections require wire brushes, high-pressure water jets and levels of cleaning up to underwater blasting. These two types of inspection allow the diver to collect data on damages such as thickness measurement, pitting corrosion, abrasion. This level of cleaning also allows cathodic protection, underwater eddy currents and underwater magnetic particle testing. INTERCON can carry out underwater visual inspections with diver, ROV & Underwater Drones.
